BACKGROUND
Sanggar Baca Umpus began with a sincere desire to share happiness and experiences that emerged in mid-2019. The idea was born out of concern for the surrounding environment, especially children and teenagers. The founder initially had a large collection of books, but felt that it was meaningless if only enjoyed by his own family. From there, the idea emerged to create a space for literary sharing through group reading activities with neighbors and nearby children. Additionally, the low reading interest among teenagers and children served as a major driving force. Many of them are more interested in gadgets and tend to spend their time in the digital world, which has led to a decrease in social interaction and physical activity.

ACTIVITY SANGGAR BACA UMPUS
MEMBACA BUKU
The main activity at Sanggar Baca Umpus is reading books together or independently in a comfortable and child-friendly area of the studio. This activity is at the heart of all the center’s activities, as it was founded with the mission of fostering a love for reading among children and teenagers. With a diverse collection of books ranging from children’s stories, educational comics, to motivational reads for teenagers, the Umpus Reading Center encourages children to develop a love for reading from an early age. Every day, children can come to choose their favorite books, read on site, or join group reading sessions led by volunteers. The warm, relaxed, and enjoyable atmosphere makes reading feel less like a chore and more like an anticipated experience. Through this activity, the center aims to instill the habit of reading as part of children’s lifestyle in the surrounding community.
BELAJAR MENARI DAN BERMAIN MUSIK
In addition to reading books, another highlight of Sanggar Baca Umpus is that it serves as a place to practice the arts, such as dancing and learning music. This studio provides a space for children and teenagers to develop their artistic talents in a supportive and enthusiastic atmosphere. Every week, the children participate in traditional dance practice as an effort to preserve local culture, as well as learn to play simple musical instruments such as the angklung, tambourine, or guitar. These activities not only aim to hone artistic skills but also build self-confidence, discipline, and strengthen social bonds among participants. With the arts space at Sanggar Baca Umpus, children are given the opportunity to grow into creative, culturally aware individuals who are balanced in both intellectual and emotional aspects.
