BACKGROUND
TBM Tanoker was established as part of the Tanoker community's efforts in Ledokombo Village, Jember, to address the urgent need for literacy and learning spaces for children and the surrounding community. The background to its establishment stems from concerns about the large number of children left behind by their parents who have migrated abroad as laborers, resulting in them growing up without adequate supervision and at risk of dropping out of school, developing addictions, or experiencing violence. The Tanoker community, which has been active since 2009, initially developed cultural-based educational activities such as traditional egrang games to engage and nurture children.

ACTIVITY TBM TANOKER
BERMAIN BELAJAR
One of activities at the TBM Tanoker is the “Play and Learn” program based on local culture, where children are encouraged to learn through traditional games such as stilts. This activity not only aims to develop motor skills and teamwork but also serves as an enjoyable educational medium, instilling values of togetherness, discipline, and cultural preservation. With this approach, the learning process becomes more vibrant and meaningful, while also strengthening children's cultural identity within their own community. Traditional games serve as an entry point for building character and social literacy from an early age.
PROGRAM LITERASI KOMUNITAS YANG INLKUSIF
Another flagship activity is the implementation of inclusive community literacy programs, such as Sekolah Bok-Ebok, Sekolah Pak Bapak, and Sekolah Eyang. These programs provide learning spaces not only for children, but also for parents, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Through group reading sessions, discussions, and story-sharing activities, TBM Tanoker creates a warm and supportive learning environment across generations. This approach aligns with Tanoker's vision as a child-, women-, and elderly-friendly community, striving to expand access to non-formal education rooted in culture and the value of mutual cooperation.
